There are two ways for improving the yield of the hetero-coupling products by the Mizoroki–Heck reaction,

Method 1: An excess amount of the complex with a vinyl group compared to the complexes with bromo groups, was used with only Pd(OAc)2, and AcONa in the absence of the phosphine ligands.

Method 2: A phosphine ligand such as Sphos was added to the reaction solution, and then some air was injected into the reaction vessel after heating the solution for several hours. The solution was continuously heated for a few days.

The homo-coupling reaction between complexes with bromo groups proceeds selectively using only Pd(OAc)2 and AcONa. This homo-coupling reaction could possibly be promoted in the presence of metal indium.
